Insects on a Plate!?

The world has introduced many a new food sources throughout the years, yet another source is crawling towards our plates. Insects already reached some peoples plate primarily in Asia and Africa. Crunchy, full of protein these creepy, crawlies are becoming popular in place of beef for various reasons. Some people believe that cows are producing too much methane gas which could cause a problematic change in the earth’s atmosphere, insect emit 100x less gas than cattle. Insects also need less water to be raised so we could provide more water to others that need it. People will be able to harvest a larger quantity of the critters meaning they will cost less. Edible insects contain a high quality protein, vitamins and amino acid which make up a large portion of our cells, tissue, and muscles. They also help with transporting and storing nutrients, repair tissue and healing wounds. If you think eating creepies is creepy then remember next time you put honey in your tea that it is bee spit. Also now we can get back at them for nibbling us up. Chef Redzepi of Noma a restaurant that serves insects says that “Ant’s tastes like seared lemon rind and a puree of fermented grasshopper and moth larvae tastes like strong fish sauce, bee larvae make a sweet mayonnaise used in place of eggs. So when you see fried grasshoppers in a bag at the supermarket in place of chips I hope you try them!
